Veterinary experts in WA to share the latest advancements in small animal medicine

The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) is bringing together veterinarians, veterinary nurses and industry professionals in Fremantle, Western Australia, to learn the latest in treating skin and bone disorders in small animals as well as new approaches to addressing common problems in working dogs.

The conference, being held 6-8 October, will cover treatments for a wide range of skin problems including allergic dermatitis and spinal disease and fracture management.

President of the AVA, Dr Paula Parker, will be attending the conference and said that the high-quality conference program will not only appeal to veterinarians but also veterinary nurses.

“We’ve got a great line-up of speakers this year. In addition to catering for veterinarians, we also have a stream dedicated to veterinary nurses where they’ll learn about the nurse’s role in managing dermatitis, radiography, fracture management and behaviour issues.

“We also have a stream dedicated to the latest treatments for working dogs. We’re looking forward to welcoming many of our rural colleagues to the conference this year, who routinely treat working dogs. They’ll explore a range of issues that currently affect Australian working dogs from toxic threats on the farm to common injuries and how to manage them,” she said.

• International guest speaker Dr Mark Owen – spinal disease and what radiographs can and cannot tell me
• Dr Lucas Beierer – distal limb injuries and working dogs and surgical therapies for brachycephalics
• Dr Alicia Fagella – Short nose – short life? Stabalisation of brachycephalic respiratory crisis
• Dr Mark Glyde – Lameness in working and performance dogs.

The Conference will be held at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges, 6-8 October 2017.
